The Body Skincare Routine That Actually Fits Into Your Life
Last Updated on April 8, 2025 by Amy
I spend so much time testing face creams and serums you’d think the rest of my body would be glowing too—but honestly? My body care routine has always been a bit of an afterthought. Sound familiar? It’s so easy to focus all our skincare energy above the neck, but soft, healthy skin shouldn’t stop at your jawline. So, I’ve been on a mission to finally build a body skincare routine that’s simple, quick, and actually feels good to stick to. If you’re short on time but want results, this one’s for you. Here’s the easy routine that’s helped me feel smooth, glowy and just a little more put together, from head to toe.

Everyday Body Care (Quick & Consistent)
If you’ve only got 5–10 minutes, this is your go-to. These are the daily habits that make the biggest difference—without adding stress to your routine.
Step 1: Gentle Cleansing
Let’s start with the basics. Harsh soaps and hot water can leave your skin feeling dry and tight—so keeping things gentle is key.
- Use a hydrating body wash: Look for ceramides, squalane, or glycerin.
- Lukewarm water only: Hot water strips natural oils.
- Ditch the loofah: Use a clean, soft washcloth or just your hands.
Step 2: Quick Moisturising
I’ll be honest—this is the step I used to skip the most. But moisturising after your shower takes less than a minute, and it genuinely makes a difference.
- Apply while skin is damp – This helps lock in hydration.
- Go lightweight in the morning – A quick-absorbing lotion or gel is ideal.
- Go richer at night – Use a cream or body butter if your skin’s feeling dry.
Step 3: Don’t Forget SPF
Yes, even on your body. Your neck, chest, hands, and arms are just as exposed as your face—especially in spring and summer.
- Daily SPF on exposed skin
- Reapply when outside for longer periods
Try this: Altruist SPF 30 is my favourite body SPF—affordable, lightweight, and developed by dermatologists.
The “Everything Shower” (1–2 Times a Week)
When you have more time (or just really need to reset), this is your upgrade. Think of it as a mini spa day at home—no appointments required.
Step 1: Exfoliate for Baby-Soft Skin
Once or twice a week is plenty for smoother, brighter skin.
- Chemical exfoliants (AHA/BHA) – Great for keratosis pilaris, dullness, or body breakouts.
- Gentle physical scrubs – Sugar scrubs are fine if your skin tolerates them.
- Dry brushing – A few minutes before your shower can help with circulation and glow.
Try This: Easy DIY Body Scrub Recipe
If you fancy a little at-home spa moment, a homemade body scrub is one of the easiest (and cheapest) ways to treat your skin. It takes less than five minutes to whip up and leaves your skin feeling buttery soft. Plus, you probably already have the ingredients in your kitchen.
Simple Sugar Scrub for Silky Skin
Ingredients:
- ½ cup brown sugar (or white sugar if that’s what you have)
- ¼ cup coconut oil (melted) or olive oil
- Optional: a few drops of your favourite essential oil (lavender, sweet orange, or peppermint work beautifully)
- Optional: 1 tsp honey for extra hydration
Instructions:
- Melt your coconut oil (if using) and let it cool slightly so it’s warm but not hot.
- In a bowl, mix the sugar and oil together until it forms a soft paste.
- Add honey and essential oils if using, and stir until well combined.
- Store your scrub in a clean, airtight jar—an old jam jar works perfectly (it should keep for about 6 months).
Step 2: Shaving (If You Shave)
Let’s leave the irritation and ingrown hairs behind.
- Exfoliate first – This helps lift hairs and clear dead skin.
- Use a fresh, sharp razor – Replace every 5–7 uses.
- Shaving cream or oil > soap – Less friction = happier skin.
- Cool rinse after – Calms the skin and tightens pores.
Go-to razor: Estrid – stylish, effective, and available on subscription so you never run out.
This is the perfect time to pop on a hair mask—let it work its magic while you shave.
Step 3: Treatments for Targeted TLC
This is your chance to target any skin concerns.
- Body acne? Use a salicylic acid treatment like Paula’s Choice BHA Body Treatment.
- KP or rough skin? Lactic or Glycolic lotions are your best bet.
- Stretch marks or scarring? Try Bio-Oil or a peptide-rich body cream.
- Dull or dehydrated? A hyaluronic acid body serum adds major glow.
Step 4: Deep Hydration
Post-exfoliation and shaving is when your skin really drinks up moisture.
- Layer a lotion, then body oil – Locks everything in.
- Try an overnight mask – A rich body butter before bed works wonders.
