Skin1004 Tone Brightening Ampoule Review: Does It Really Work?
Does Korean skincare really live up to the hype? I’ll admit, I was skeptical at first. Until recently, I hadn’t incorporated many Korean skincare products into my routine, assuming they were a bit of a gimmick. But my opinion has completely changed, thanks in part to this product. Skin1004’s Madagascar Centella Tone Brightening Capsule Ampoule has quickly earned a permanent spot in my routine, delivering deep hydration and a gentle brightening effect without irritation. If your skin often feels dull or dehydrated, this might be the glow-boosting solution you’ve been looking for.

What Is the Skin1004 Tone Brightening Ampoule?
Ampoules are like supercharged serums, designed to target specific skin concerns with concentrated ingredients. The Skin1004 Tone Brightening Ampoule features MadeWhite™ technology, formulated to hydrate, soothe, and brighten, all in one step. The formula felt gentle on my own skin, which can be sensitive, although individual reactions will vary.
Key Ingredients and Benefits
Hydrating and Soothing
Centella Asiatica is quickly becoming one of my favourite skincare ingredients. It’s famous for its skin-soothing properties and this ampoule contains a whopping 77%, making it a great choice for those with sensitive or easily irritated skin. Combined with hydrating humectants like glycerin, butylene glycol, betaine and madecassoside, it helps keep skin plump and comfortable throughout the day.
Brightening
Niacinamide is a powerhouse ingredient for improving skin tone and boosting brightness. Studies have shown that products with 2-5% niacinamide can effectively reduce hyperpigmentation¹. The Skin1004 ampoule contains 4% which combined with the hydrating ingredients mentioned above should offer a gentle, slow and steady glow.
Additionally, it contains tranexamic acid and a stable vitamin C derivative, which work together to enhance its brightening effects and promote a more even complexion.

My Experience: Does It Really Work?
First Impressions & Texture
The ampoule has a light, watery texture that absorbs almost instantly. It’s non-sticky, making it perfect for morning and evening use. There is no strong fragrance and it feels really comfortable on the skin.
Performance & Results
I’ve been using this ampoule for a few months, and while it doesn’t deliver an instant transformation, the hydration boost was noticeable from the very first use. My skin feels softer, smoother, and stays comfortably hydrated throughout the day, especially when layered under moisturiser.
The brightening effects, however, are more gradual. Over time, I’ve noticed a subtle but definite improvement in overall radiance, with my complexion appearing more even-toned and less dull. If you’re looking for a dramatic brightening effect, a vitamin C serum might be a better choice. However, if you have sensitive skin or already have a lot of active ingredients in your routine, this ampoule’s gentle, hydrating formula offers a slow and steady glow without irritation.
I was also able to increase the strength of my tretinoin during the period I was using this ampoule. I can’t attribute that to this product, but I found the extra hydration helpful alongside the rest of my barrier-supporting routine.
Who It’s Best For
- Those looking for hydration + mild brightening
- People with sensitive or easily irritated skin
- Those who already use active ingredients (e.g., retinol) and need a gentle brightening product
Who Might Not Like It
If you want fast, intense brightening, a higher-strength vitamin C serum might be a better choice. Consider a targeted treatment with higher niacinamide or tranexamic acid concentrations for stubborn dark spots.
How to Use the Skin 1004 Brightening Ampoule
This ampoule can be used morning and night, but I prefer it in my morning routine for an extra boost of hydration.
- Cleanse & Tone – Start with a clean face.
- Apply the Ampoule – Use 2-3 drops and gently pat it into your skin.
- Follow with Moisturiser – Lock in hydration with your usual cream.
- Sunscreen in the AM – Essential for protecting your skin and maintaining brightness.
It layers beautifully with other skincare products, so you can easily pair it with your favourite serums and treatments.
Where to Buy
The SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Tone Brightening Capsule Ampoule is available from several online retailers. Prices can vary quite a bit, so it’s worth comparing before buying. The 100ml bottle also lasts considerably longer than a typical 30ml serum.
Final Verdict: Is It Worth Buying?
⭐ Rating: 8/10 ⭐
If hydration is your main focus but you’d also like a subtle brightening boost, the Skin1004 Tone Brightening Ampoule is a great option. It keeps skin plump and comfortable while gradually enhancing tone and radiance, without any harsh side effects. Based on its hydrating power alone, I’d rate it a 10/10. However, as a tone-brightening product, the effect is a bit too gentle to earn full marks.
Best for:
✔ Those who prefer gentle, steady results
✔ People with sensitive skin
Not for:
❌ Those looking for fast, dramatic brightening
Would I repurchase? YES, especially for hydration + mild radiance boost! However, I have a feeling it will take me about a year to get through the massive 100ml bottle!!!
If you’re exploring more from the brand, I’ve also reviewed the SKIN1004 Hyalu-Cica Water-Fit Sun Serum.
