Skincare routine for busy moms

Finding time for yourself in the morning as a busy mum can feel impossible. Before kids, I already struggled to leave the house on time. Now, juggling two children and my own needs before 8 a.m. often feels like an Olympic event. Fortunately, my husband works from home full-time and takes care of breakfast, giving me a moment to focus on myself. Still, the chaos can leave me feeling like I’ve worked an entire shift before I even get to my job.

Skincare is my small but essential moment of self-care. With a few quick steps, I feel more refreshed and ready to face the day. Over the past four years, I’ve streamlined my morning routine to focus on products that are effective and time-saving. Here’s my go-to daily skincare routine—perfect for busy mornings!

Step 1: Cleanse

Beauty Pie Japanfusion Cleanser

Let’s be real: not every morning includes a full cleanse. On rushed days, Garnier Micellar Water often steps in. Ideally, though, a proper cleanse removes oil, dirt, and other build-up from overnight, setting the stage for smoother makeup application.

The Beauty Pie Japanfusion Pure Transforming Cleanser is my top pick. It’s a lightweight, gel-to-oil-to-milk formula that cleanses thoroughly without stripping your skin. It’s priced at £10 for Beauty Pie members and leaves your face feeling soft and refreshed. I have been repurchasing this product for years and it has the most gorgeous texture. I also frequently use this as a nighttime cleanse, it does a brilliant job of removing makeup- even waterproof mascara!

How to Use:

  1. Apply to dry skin and massage until the texture becomes silky.
  2. Add water to emulsify into a milk I sometimes skip this step as find it can all get a bit messy and results in very wet arms!
  3. Beauty Pie advise that you rinse it off but I prefer removing with a damp facecloth.

Quick Tip: Avoid face wipes! They can irritate your skin and don’t clean as effectively. A micellar water is a much better option if you can’t do a full cleanse. Just make sure to rinse it off.

Step 2: Hydrate Your Eyes

Late nights and early mornings leave their mark under my eyes. The Beauty Pie Plantastic Genius Ginseng Eye Cream is my current favourite morning eye cream. This lightweight, non-sticky eye cream targets puffiness, fine lines, and dullness—three things most mums know too well. It’s gentle, absorbs quickly, and pairs beautifully with concealer. At £22 for Beauty Pie members, it’s a worthwhile investment.

Step 3: Brighten with Vitamin C Serum

The next step of my quick daily morning skincare routine is the gorgeous Allies of Skin 20% Vitamin C Brighten + Firm Serum. A good vitamin C serum is essential for tired, dull skin. This one is my favourite, thanks to its thick yet easily absorbed texture. At £93 (or £65.10 during sales), it’s on the pricier side but delivers visible brightening and firmness. It is formulated with 20% Ethylated L-Ascorbic Acid. This is a newer, more stable form of vitamin C which is gentle and generally tolerated well by most people.

How to use

This vitamin C serum has quite a thick texture. For it to spread and sink into the skin I find my skin has to be pretty damp. I would also sometimes add in a mist before this step. If you are new to vitamin C I would ease it gently into your routine and start with every other day alternating with a hydrating and soothing serum. If my skin is feeling a little worse for wear (usually around the time of my period) I would use The Ordinary Soothing and Barrier Support Serum. I love this product and have recently reviewed it here!

I have been using this for about 3 months now and it provides a nice glow and brightening effect to my skin. As a tired Mum who often looks a little grey in the mornings, any kind of brightening is much needed!

Step 4: Moisturise

The Ordinary Natural Moisturing Factors and HA. Used as a moisturiser in a quick morning skincare routine for busy Mums.

The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA is the perfect no-frills moisturiser for busy mornings. I’ll admit it is a bit joyless. The packaging is simple and there is no fragrance. But it works! It is my favourite winter moisturiser for my combination skin as it quite simply does what a moisturiser is meant to. It’s also a bargain at only £12.80 for 100mls. Its key ingredients are Amino Acids, Hyaluronic Acid and Glycerin. It leaves my skin feeling supple and hydrated and it’s a great base for makeup.

How to use

  1. Smooth a penny-sized amount over your face and neck.
  2. Don’t be alarmed by its thick texture; it absorbs quickly.

Step 5: Always Wear SPF!

Beauty Pie SPF

No matter the season, SPF is non-negotiable. Yes, even in the dead of winter when your face is screaming out for some sunshine. The Beauty Pie Super Healthy Skin Featherlight UVA/UVB SPF 50 Sunscreen + Primer is a lightweight formula that doubles as a primer. It absorbs easily, and doesn’t clog pores, sting eyes or cause breakouts. After four months of daily use, it’s become a staple in my routine.

This entire routine takes just a few minutes and makes a huge difference in how I feel throughout the day. On those hectic mornings when even a cleanser feels like a stretch, focus on a quick swipe of micellar water, moisturiser and SPF. A little consistency goes a long way.

Remember, skincare is about making yourself feel good. Whether it’s a full routine or a simple two-step approach, take those few minutes to prioritise yourself—even if it’s with a toddler tugging at your leg! Let me know if you have questions or want product recommendations—I’d love to help.

  1. Great article! We mamas need to take care of ourselves as much as we take care of our little ones. I recently discover that mineral sunscreens work best for my skin, other sunscreens causes redness or irritation. I now need to check out the beauty items you recommended. 💕
