Rediscovering My Style In Motherhood: Easy Outfit Hacks

·

When I first started this blog, it was all about skincare and makeup; the little rituals that helped me feel like me again during the fog of early motherhood. A swipe of mascara, a quick cleanse, it was never about looking perfect, but about finding a moment of calm and self-connection in the chaos.

Now that my youngest is nearly three, I’m fighting the sudden urge to donate everything I own and reinvent my style from the ground up. After five years of living in leggings, oversized sweatshirts, and slightly scuffed trainers, I’m craving outfits that make me feel confident, comfortable, and like myself again.

The tricky part? I’m not entirely sure what my style is anymore. My body has changed. My routine has changed. And so has my idea of what “put together” looks like.

Beauty will always be the heart of this blog, but if you’re also coming up for air and starting to enjoy getting dressed again, I’d love for you to come along on this journey with me. I’m not a fashion expert, just a millennial mum navigating the world of outfits that fit real life (and still involve chasing a toddler around). No runway looks here—yes, I’m still loyal to my skinny jeans—but I am testing what’s actually wearable, stylish, and makes the morning rush a little easier.

Start With Everyday Mum Outfits (Not Special Occasions)

One of the biggest mistakes we make is focusing on outfits for events instead of everyday life.

If most of your days involve:

  • School runs
  • Work
  • Errands
  • Being on your feet a lot

Then your style needs to work there first.

This is why I focus so much on realistic outfit formulas, the kind of outfits you can throw on quickly, feel comfortable in, and still feel like yourself.

I’ve shared specific examples of this in my post on realistic winter outfit ideas for busy mums, which shows how small tweaks can make everyday outfits feel more intentional without adding effort.

Dressing for a Changing Body (Without Waiting to “Get Back”)

A lot of mums put their style on hold while they wait for their body to change again.

That usually means:

  • Wearing clothes that don’t fit properly
  • Avoiding mirrors
  • Feeling uncomfortable all day

Your body deserves clothes that fit it now, not later!

That doesn’t mean giving up on feeling stylish. It means choosing:

  • Cuts that skim rather than cling
  • Fabrics with movement
  • Outfits that work with your proportions as they are today

This is especially important in the early months after having a baby. If you are in that phase, check out my easy postpartum outfit ideas. It focuses on comfort, confidence, and clothes that actually work in real life, not “bounce-back” fantasy outfits.

Seasonal Dressing Without Overthinking It

Seasonal dressing can feel overwhelming, especially when trends change constantly.

You don’t need a whole new wardrobe every season. What helps instead is:

  • A small core of reliable basics
  • A few seasonal layers
  • One or two pieces that make outfits feel current

Winter, in particular, can be tricky for mums with all the bulky layers, practical shoes, and unpredictable weather. That’s why I’ve broken down easy mum outfit formulas into repeatable combinations rather than one-off looks.

The goal is to reduce decision fatigue, not add to it.

Rebuilding Confidence Through Clothes

Getting your style back isn’t about becoming a “different version” of yourself.

It’s about:

  • Feeling comfortable leaving the house
  • Not second-guessing your outfit all day
  • Recognising yourself in the mirror again

This doesn’t happen overnight. It happens gradually:

  • One outfit you like
  • One item you reach for again and again
  • One small shift in how you feel getting dressed

Style after motherhood isn’t about perfection. It’s about feeling at ease in your own clothes.

Where to Go Next

If you’re rebuilding your style as a mum, these posts will help you take the next step, depending on where you are right now:

You don’t need to rush this. Style isn’t something you “fix”. It’s something you grow back into, in a way that fits your life now.

Bonus Tip: Master the 2-Minute Beauty Routine

Looking put together isn’t just about clothes; fresh skin and well-kept hair make a huge difference.

How to do it:

  • Use a tinted moisturiser or BB cream for a quick, fresh-faced look.
  • Brush up your brows with a tinted gel to frame your face effortlessly.
  • Keep a multi-use product (like a lip and cheek tint) handy for a quick pop of colour.
  • Hair in need of a refresh? A sleek ponytail, claw clip updo, or a quick spritz of dry shampoo does the trick.
